Investment is not a decision you make because you want to please anyone. it is done with an intention to get returns. if Tanzanian is much of your preference, go there and don't look back.

kenya is more than the 30 or so members of mashada who post here in the politics thread. it is also important to note that some of the posters here are not currently in kenya so you cannot take their word and base your decisions on what you read here. that said, it would interest you to note that the usual sources of energy are not enough to serve the entire population of kenya. there is plenty of room for more opportunities especially in renewable energy that is if you are targeting the individual users. seriously. |

2)There are plenty of renewable energy companies in Kenya. Its a very competitive field and many of them are local investors who keep the profits in the country, foreign investors tend to take profits out of the country and many have failed due to the relativley low prices charged by local companies. What is it you have that is better? You may indeed find it easier going in tanzania as they have not quite caught on to the ideas of competition like kenyans have so the suppliers charge a fortune for their services! Does the crap you have seen here have anything to do with renewable energy? And rather than waste time posting comments here, you should be already in Tanzania by now, and see if we will come looking for you. We have enough investors in renewable energy in Kenya. Good bye.

Kenya has a unique politico-economic scenario. Our politics is run by old guards (mainly thieves who plundered public coffers early) and new thugs (those who plundered in the recent past and continue to do so). Your average Kenyan voter, majority of whom are just a level or 2 above the poverty line are generally stupid and easily manipulated. A bag of sugar, kilo of meat, a jug of moonshine and the same non performer is back. Their understanding of new leadership means a leader changing from one party to another each and every consecutive election. This guarantees that new political parties are formed for each election period. 80% of the 'new blood' voted in 2007 were all in the '80's or '90's administration, but their minions and those who consider some leaders as deity continue the rabid fights online in forums like this - never mind that this is accessible by the whole world, and so we hang out dirty linen for everyone even bonafide investors, assuming you are one. Thats our political situation in a nutshell. This sites political section is at best juvenile, granted, there are usually good arguments once in a while, I would urge a would be investor to seek other areas of 'recce' so to speak. Being that this is not a sponsored forum, in here are propagandists, bored clueless individuals, 17 yr old or less students with access to the net, their world view is their village market and their uncles house in Nairobi, their national interaction is minimal hence the battle lines drawn on tribal lines. The good news is, the business climate is quite strong and testament to this is that all regional headquarters are based there for most companies and organisations. Kenyans are hardworking people, the shenanigans going on with our politics is mainly because even the politicians dont try and play a hand in the private sector. Many Kenyans have their heads burried in their day to day businesses and survival tactics - Was the business environment that unfriendly a revolution would be on our hands (But I suspect we are headed there if we are not careful). Take your time and do your due diligence study on EA, the best environment will win eventually.
