Default Joseph Nyagah to answer on importation of powder milk.    Show Printable Version  Print   Email this Page  Email

Joseph Nyaga, the Minister for Cooperative development and one of the ODM's pentagon members is to face censure next week over the poor state of the countrys dairy industry.

Nyagah is going to answer to a parliamentary select committee (on agriculture...thank you again john mututho) on who has authorized importation of powdered milk that has flooded the country, hurting the local small scale milk farmer.

The country has experienced a glut of powdered milk, over the past one month which coincidentally follows the sacking of the New KCC managing director Francis Mwangi.

Powdered Milk worth 2.5 million shillings is rotting at KCC factories due to lack of market.

John mututho, we know you never let us down, you made Raila run away to Japan with your fearless exposure of the maize scam that he chaired from his office.

This time, ensure that Joseph Nyagah quickly discovers there is a dairy farmers meeting in Australia which he needs to attend, for 2 weeks, right before parliament reopens.

@MK. What's the problem with the milk industry in Kenya? Is it sales or production?

Sales. Powdered Milk from God knows where (hope its not china) has found its way into the kenyan market and is selling at below market price hence milk farmers who are members of KCC cannot realize a decent profit and they had to pour their milk, you should have seen it on T.V. Kumwaga maziwa ile style ni kama unaosha floor ya dairy nayo...mpaka unaifagia na zile broom kubwa.

What's our consumption of milk/ day or annum? 2.5million isn't alot of money and sincerly I don't see how that ammount of milk can ruin whole market. My reasoning is that 2.5 million shillings is $36 000 which can fetch not much more than 10-11 tonnes of milk at $3200 per tonne. To me Muhoho is chasing the rabbit. I don't think they want to catch it. I think the problem lies with the ownership or runninmg of KCC.
