  Unfulfilled Longings

  I skirt along the edge of something wonderful
  but I know not what destiny resides at its core
  I have made my wish, rubbed the lamp of fate
  will it be granted?
  
  I see a host of blessings amidst
  threads woven at the loom of hope
  their aura but barely reaches me
  from within the garden of miracles
  
  I almost smell the cool dewy beyond
  bathe in the promise of a heart's paradise
  the comforting green upon my feet
  in the looking glass of diamond drops
  
  will my wish be granted?
  I long for this palpitating flutter to be calmed
  the storm of mind overcast to be appeased
  with but a word from the angel of promise

  [I really should have been done now, but my in box is a mess, fired the nanny on my return and dealing with a semi-sick Gabi...did I say I have 10,000 things on my plate? I need a clone. STAT!]

  The Geneva conference marked the first time that Waki has spoken publicly on the CIPEV (Waki) report. He was understandably measured, given the controversy surrounding his report - or as he corrected us - the Commission’s report. He reminded the audience that many recommendations were made by the Commission beyond the local tribunal that could be acted upon NOW and was disappointed that these are being ignorede.g.
  - recommendations on issues around IDPs
  - recommendations on addressing the sexual and gender based violence
  - recommendations on police reform

  He noted that the fact that they recommended a local tribunal that by-passed the criminal justice system, does not mean that the Commission had zero confidence in the judiciary as some claim…they just felt that a tribunal would be the most expedient way to deliver justice.

  He said that they were deliberately bold as a Commission because they wanted to be unlike other Commissions whose recommedations disappeared into thin air. He also said that they had a responsiblity to deliver because they had reassured Kenyans who were reluctant to testify before them that something would come out of the Commission.
  [A bit of goss - the Commission's secretary, George Kegoro, did an outstanding job as far as marshalling the testimony and keeping things on track].

  March Tweeter

  Ok, I agree with you, I’ve not written anything coherent on this blog for a very long time. The recent few have been more of announcements than blogging, just to keep the blog alive. March was my tweeter month of the year (and one very hectic month). Tweeter is simply a micro-blogging platform that makes it easier communicate with other people (Tweeps, tweeples, tweeterers) over the internet. It’s sort of a chat room that goes beyond that and has more functionalities than simply chatting – tweetpic and so many other things I’m still learning more about.
  
  My journey on tweeterville has led to meeting great people. some I never knew before like @kahenya – the fire tracker, @pinkm – the excel expert, @louizah, @kaboro, @paulakahumbu – the wildlife expert, @EdObie, @JustDes and others I knew before – some personally some just over the net like @bankelele, @RyanShenHoover, @Cho1 and @ConceptAdvisory. Despite the time its taken me from meeting some deadlines and neglecting Kainvestor blog, its a great experience that you can carry around in your mobile phone, keeping you busy in a boring situations (not in cars or matatu’s – it can be dangerous depending with type of phone and route taken)
  
  My quest on tweeterville continues as I learn more tricks to answering one simple question, ‘What are you doing?' in only 140 words.

  Safari Rally : Low Key Start

  For an event which attracted thousands of fans, the sport is slowly drifting into international rallying obscurity. The event was flagged off and the rest of the city was almost unmoved.
  What's even worse the cars will cover only about 700 kms ( approx 437 miles) and mainly feature runs in 'people's farms as a local driver put it in the Press today.The rally had also almost sunk due to the low interest by sponsors though the buzz came on thanks to KCB who are the title sponsors. The weather has also played its worst and a dusty rally with patches of rains dotting parts of the route.
  The magic of the Safari Rally just seems gone. Even some of us were not so impressed by the spectator stage which has been a highlight for the last 4 years. Organisers had better come up with a better thing ( like 2 cars racing on the track) to make it more exciting.
  They can also add a skills section just to showcase what some of the drivers can do (I remember Richard Burns doing some spins on the Argentine finishing ramp and it was worth watching)...
  We also need to fully provide for the rally and let by-gones be by-gones, WRC has forgotten about us and the faster we forget them the better. We might as well have a section for our crazy matatu drivers and weekend speed-racing wannabes from well-to-do neighbourhoods. That makes more sense to us !

  Volleyball: Gloves come off

  After playing their qualifying matches and moving to the quarters, Kenyan teams , Kenya Prisons and Kenya Pipeline have been disqualified from the tournament-African Womens Club Championships.
  For what has been a low key event and an even worse PR job from the organisers, this will effectively mean no Kenyan team plays for the remainder of the tournament. The disqualification came after other teams from Tunisia and Cameroon raised concerns that the 2 teams had fielded players who had played in foreign leagues in the last 6 months thus forfeiting their positions in the current clubs.
  Now for the lure of Arab oil monies, the teams have been banned for 2 years and the players for one year...heavy penalties if you ask me...almost like death knells for them.
  Kenya Volleyball Federation(KVF) can't escape the blame since they ought to have alerted the teams of dangers of fielding these players some of who are not even at their best. They ought to have saved the country the embarrassment of having both teams banned and in effect no representation to the country. It tells you why they never secured enough sponsors or are endeared to local firms.
  Barbs and more barbs on you KVF !!!

  I feel like a shoe sole
  Like I am being used to step over sewage waste,
  The murky waters of touts and their nemesis
  And I, the piece of rubber,
  caught up between steel and tarmac
  
  Matatus have become the den of tongue lashing touts,
  Music blaring speakers,
  High speed driving morons,
  Disco lighting effects,
  Porno spitting shop,
  Money extorting thieves,
  Bongo playing mobile discos,
  Incoherently crunking sounds,
  Tyre displaying bottoms,
  Panty showing females,
  Traffic causing stunts,
  Yaani, nimechoka
  
  I called it our way of life,
  I called it our culture
  For we are caught between romantic thoughts of a culture we never knew and,
  Bitter realities of what our lives have become
  Matatus are the mix in our new culture of,
  Junk food eating,
  Brown beers guzzling,
  Weekend club hopping,
  Nyamachoma at Njuguna’s eating,
  Foreign footbal teams cheering,
  Network end month conjesting,
  Dirty mugithi listening,
  Disco floors shikanain’g,
  To digz, Matatu taking

  Basketball: Kenyan lady makes a big impact in the US

  The Kenyan basketball scene has been rather nondescript at a time when other sporting disciplines have been excelling at different levels. Thus it was refreshing to read that a Kenyan lady is about to make a break into women's basketball most lucrative league WNBA.
  While local media reports have stated that the lady has been drafted to the Indiana ladies team , fondly known as Indiana Fever, I'll not confirm that to you yet. But what I can confirm is that the lady playing in her 6th year, at the National Association of Inter-collegiate Athletics (NAIA) Basketball, has made a big impact , winning her 2nd consecutive Player of the Year award.
  This is no mean achievement, given basketball not just in Kenya but most parts of Africa is still at times formative stages. In fact, there are less than 10 players from African basketball leagues and even worse is that there are very few who can make a transition without playing college games first in US- perhaps a skewed position of the game in Africa. Can NBA and WNBA or even FIBA try address such?
  Back to our local hero, I do hope she's drafted to the competitive WNBA league from her Union University team which she's currently playing as centre. It bodes well for the local teams and talent which has been fairing better than their male counterparts internationally.
  Please KBF use this goodwill to grow the game locally, what more do you need to wake up? For more info check here.

  Well, I guess it helps to be uhuru kenyatta's (Finance Minister & Deputy PM) uncle as well as a buddy who speaks the same language as kibz (Kenya's prez).
  
  Yes, the reviled, corrupt & inept george muhoho is back at KAA in spite of all the accusations of incompetence. It seems he might have firm instructions to wrap up - and collect the cash on - all the funny deals within the next 12 months. Before others get wise to the 'deals' especially the long-dated land leases. Yep, sell out Kenya. Quicker the better. After all 2012 is not that far away!!!
  
  muhoho & friends forget - or do not care - that JKIA could be the real hub of Africa. That Nairobi could be a thriving 'shopping' destination for transit passengers. That this can create thousands of well-paying jobs for Kenyans. Diversify our economy. Enrich all Kenyans.
  
  No... All that is NOT relevant because quick cash for 'personal' use can be made by entering into opaque deals with 'unknown' or connected firms. Allocate land to unknown foreign airlines (OneJetOne) & developers (the so-called Qatari based Afro-Asian Investment Company) while starving locally-grown Kenyan airlines of growth opportunities.
